Glover Park After Dark storytelling series, 6:30 p.m., Glover Park in the Marietta Square, downtown Marietta, Georgia. I will be reading from my latest book at the open mic. Free! Come early for at 6 p.m. there will be a reading of Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are."

13th Annual Fall Arts in the Park Festival in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The festival occurs over two days — Oct. 14-15 — but I'll be signing books on Sunday with the Sisters in Crime chapter of Atlanta.

Family History Book Showcase, 6-8 p.m., Opelousas Museum, Opelousas, Louisiana.
The Opelousas Museum and Interpretive Center will showcase books of family history and I'll be speaking on the writing process from concept to publication, as well as genealogical research.

Lifewriting: Putting Memory On Paper, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., NuNu’s Arts and Culture Collective, Arnaudville, Louisiana.
Life writing is writing your life story but it’s also capturing moments in your lifetime that impart wisdom to others, bring a smile to a person’s face — or tears, — invoke memories in others, provide another side to the story and leave behind history for future generations. We’ll discuss “What’s your story?” and the different ways to transform memories on to paper.
The first half of the class will be instruction and a writing exercise. If you like, bring photos and mementoes. During the second half of the class, we’ll share what we’ve written.
Lunch will be provided for a small cost.
Feedback is optional. Let the class know if you would like to hear feedback. When offering criticism, never be negative when critiquing another person’s writing. You can start with “What I like about your story is…” followed by ways to improve it or “I think this part could be improved if you tweaked it in such and such a way….”
Note: This will be a safe writing and sharing space. All that’s shared here, stays here. Please no discussions or readings involving religion and politics or anything that might make someone uncomfortable.
